Taking 5 wickets in an innings is a big achievement for bowlers but taking 10 wickets in an innings is extremely rare. It is considered as the most remarkable feat in cricket. Still, there are three bowlers who have achieved this feat in Test Cricket History.

Jim Laker
It is said that Jim Laker has taken 10 wickets in an innings twice. But the first isn’t considered as that time rules of cricket were not formal enough. Still, Jim was able to achieve this feat once again in 1956 against Australia in Manchester. He was the first player to achieve this feat after the cricket rules were formalised and the records started to be maintained. During his outstanding performance, 9 out of 11 batsmen were unable to score the single-digit mark. His figures were 10/53.
Anil Kumble
Anil Kumble, the best spin bowler of India was only the second player to take 10 wicket haul in an innings. He achieved this world record against Pakistan in 1999 at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. This feat from him could not have come at a better time as India had lost the first test match and needed a win in the second game.
Kumble achieved this feat in the fourth innings of the match. The Pakistani team was chasing 420 runs and was at 101 for no loss on day four. He then not only broke the partnership but also completed the second-only 10 wicket haul in an innings of test cricket. His final figures were 10/74.
Kumble announced retirement in 2008 with 619 wickets in Test Cricket. He is also the third bowler with the most wickets in test cricket history.
Ajaz Patel
Ajaz Patel of New Zealand became the third player to pick up all 10 wickets in an innings of test cricket. He achieved this feat against India in 2021 at Wankhede. The left-arm orthodox bowler spun a web around the Indian batting lineup and finished the innings at 10/119.
Ajaz was born in Mumbai, India and migrated to New Zealand. “It is emotional. I was thinking about how many times I had left that airport but this time I am representing New Zealand….When I got off at the airport, I had a lot of flashbacks about leaving Mumbai for the first time and coming back for the first time. It will be a special moment for me, something I will look back on fondly in the future.” Patel had said.
