Gujarat Giants on Thursday defeated Delhi Capitals by 11 runs and kept their hopes alive for a place in the playoffs.

Batting first after losing the toss, Gujarat lost their opener, Sophie Dunkley, pretty cheaply. She could only score four runs off six balls. After that, Wolvaardt and Harleen Deol formed a partnership to get Gujarat back on track. Ashley Gardner also played beautiful innings of 51 runs off 33 balls. Wolvaardt was the top scorer for the Giants with 57 runs off 45 balls.

Chasing 146 in 20 overs, Delhi would have thought it to be an easy task, but Gujarat bowlers had other plans. Tanuja Kanwar got rid of Shafali Verma in the second over of the game. Delhi Capitals’ captain Meg Lanning also got out pretty cheaply after hitting a couple of boundaries. She scored 18 runs off 15 balls. With this, she took her tally of runs to 239 runs in the Tata WPL 2023 Orange Cap List.

After that, the Delhi batting lineup collapsed as they were 100/8 in the 15th over. Alice Capsey and Marizanne Kapp both became victims of run-outs after hitting some pretty nice shots. However, the Gujarat bowlers were given a scare by Arundhati Reddy in the end as she took the game really close. She hit four boundaries and got it down to run a ball for the Delhi Capitals.

This was the second win for the Gujarat Giants, and with this win, they moved to the fourth position in the Tata Women’s Premier League Points Table.

Now Gujarat will face RCB in a do-or-die game on Saturday.
