Indian Premier League (IPL) is indeed one of the toughest and most entertaining cricket tournaments which is played in India. All these years since it was inaugurated in 2008, the tournament has witnessed several ups and downs, just like the players from different cricketing nations. Throughout the journey of IPL, some bizarre things have happened, and that’s the beauty of this tournament. Recently, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants were the two new teams to be introduced in this tournament, and the captains were Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul, respectively. Many are not aware of the Gujarat Titans Owner because the body is not a prolific celebrity figure. Instead of that, the owner of Gujarat Titans is an Overseas Equity Firm called CVC Capital Partners.
In this blog, we will shed some light on the Gujarat Titans Team Owner because despite winning the very first edition of their IPL journey, we aren’t aware of who they are, what they do, and all.
Who is the Owner of the Gujarat Titans?
Gujarat Titans is a franchise cricket team that is based and belongs to Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. The team was founded in 2021 and surprisingly won the tournament by crushing and smashing almost every other team. The team was led by Hardik Pandya, who, apart from batting and bowling, displayed great captaincy skills. Gujrat Titans was coached by Former Indian Pacer Ashish Nehra, who did a marvelous job of uniting the group and ultimately showed them the path to becoming the ultimate conquerors.
But, even after lifting the trophy, no one spoke about the Owner of Gujrat Titans. Isn’t that funny? Imagine that sort of Negligence towards the owners of KKR, MI, Punjab Kings, CSK, RCB, and others. It won’t be surprising if cricketing fans are found asking, ‘Who is the owner of Gujarat Titans’? It’s because no media is interested in displaying a private equity company, as it won’t give them credible TRPs.
So, the Gujarat Titans Owner is CVC Capital Partners. It’s a Luxembourg-based private equity and investment advisory firm that a group of stakeholders owns. It was founded in 1981, and today, it has approximately $133 billion of assets under management.
In August 2021, the governing bodies and other top-management authorities of the Indian Premier League issued an invitation to tender for two new sides. These new teams were named Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. The CVC capital partners won the rights in Dubai in October 2021 to manage and control the Ahmedabad franchise with a bid of Rupees 5,625 Crore.
During the Mega Auction, the franchise decided that it would be India’s Supreme All-Rounder, Hardik Pandya, who would lead the team. Apart from him, they also picked Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, David Miller, Lockie Ferguson, Matthew Wade, Mohammed Shami, Rahul Tewatia, Yash Dayal, Wriddhiman Saha, Alzari Joseph, and a few more first-class cricketers.
Hence, it won’t be false to state that CVC Capital Partners have started their journey in the World’s Biggest Cricketing Tournament with a bang. We’ll see how Hardik Pandya and Co. will proceed in this upcoming IPL 2023. It’s just a matter of a few days now.
So the next time someone asks you about who the Gujarat Titans Team Owner is? You must tell them. It’s an investment advisory and global private equity firm. John Clark is the CEO and Managing Partner at CVC Capital Partners, and Anant Jain is the Managing Director of CVC as he serves as a board member at Sajjan India.
